Alexander Graham Bell is credited with inventing the telephone in 1876. His interest in the invention came
primarily from his background in vocal physiology and his speech instruction to the deaf. The first telephone
was a far cry from what we know today. It was actually not more than a telegraph that could transmit vague
sounds. Bell improved the phone and a couple of years latter, he incorporated magnetics to resonate a metal
disc for transmitting sound. This was a great improvement, but callers still had to shout to overcome noise
and voice distortions. The telephone continued to improve and in 1878 the first manual telephone exchange
was opened. It served 21 customers in New Haven, Connecticut. Today, the phone is a sophisticated piece of
equipment, not like the antique telephone as shown above. But the most important call of all does not require
a telephone at all.
Romans 10:12-13
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who
call on him, for "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NIV)
