The Clothes Iron first appeared in Europe in the 1300s, but before that, for thousands of years, people used all sorts of objects to remove wrinkles from clothing. But for the last 1300 years or so, the iron has been recognized as the tool of choice for the job. The flat-iron as shown above is very similar to the old irons of the distant past, and is comprised of a flat piece of iron with a metal handle attached to it. Heating the iron required one to hold it over a fire until it was hot. To avoid getting burned while working, a padded cloth would be used to wrap around the handle. Another problem was getting soot on the finished product. To avoid this, another thin cloth would be placed between the garment and the iron so that black soot would not be transferred to the clothing being ironed. The above tool would be used until it was too cool to do its job. Many people owned several flat-irons so they could heat one or more while one was being used. Todays irons are far more sophisticated. They are mostly electric with the ability to inject steam, self cleaning, and a whole host of other advantages, so the old flat-iron has been retired into the realm of Times Gone By.....
Ephesians 5:27
"That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."
