Galleries, Aerial Photography, and Slideshows are a great way of getting to know the outdoors visually. I know of no faster method of getting a feel for what to expect on your adventures. The old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" is as true today as when the phrase was first coined. Due to the nature of this website, I can safely say, with hardly a reservation, that all you visitors have a great love for the outdoors. And I bet many of you probably use your camera as an important tool for capturing your experiences.

Now if you are one of those wilderness travelers that have not adopted the hobby of photography, I would highly encourage you to do so. It will give your outings a whole new dimension, because you can come back and share your experience with others in a way that no words can.

Christopher McCandless hitchhiked his way to the Alaskan wilderness to get away from people and found out the hard way that being alone is not what it's cracked up to be. Unfortunately he died of starvation in 1992 out there while learning that lesson. But one of the things that he wrote in his notebook stuck with me. "Happiness that is not shared is no happiness at all." That is one of the reasons I like photography so much. It is a way of sharing with people, even when you are alone out there with just your camera. See you on the Trails, Dave French
