The Manzanar War Relocation Center is located near Lone Pine, California at the base of the Sierra Nevada. In 1942, the United States government ordered more than 120,000 men, women, and children to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military-style camps. Manzanar was one of ten camps where Japanese American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. It was one of the smaller camps, even though at its peak, it had 10,000 inmates. Above are a couple of buildings that used to house the captives. Let us hope this episode in American History remains in the realm of Times Gone By...
